Reds star Taniela Tupou scoops Australian Super Rugby Player of the Year award
Powerhouse Queensland prop Taniela Tupou has clinched his second Australian Super Rugby Player of the Year award in three years.
The 24-year-old has continued to make his mark as one of the world's best props, with the award topping an impressive Tri Nations series with the Wallabies.
Also winning the award in 2018, Tupou has continued the Reds' recent dominance of the award with teammate Samu Kerevi winning it in 2019 before shifting his career to Japan.
Known to rugby fans as the 'Tongan Thor', Tupou was integral in Queensland's push to the Super Rugby AU final, where they fell to the Brumbies.
The award was voted on by Super Rugby AU coaches as well as a panel of judges.
The John Eales Medal for the best Wallabies player will be awarded next week, with Tupou among the favourites alongside rookie Harry Wilson, lock Matt Philip and 2019 winner Marika Koroibete.

Go to commentsPerofeta came back and was available for the eoyt right? Or was that why Love was in the squad (but got injured in the last week)?
It was such a frustrating year. Perofeta looked a service stop gap until Jordan was fit, but then got injured. Plummer was selected because of Pero's injury and dmac shat the bed in the second half in Australia but Clarke (?) got himself binned at the 65 min mark so Plummer couldn't come on (at least with the risk adverse Razors thinking) when he was planned to.
So many other exciting opportunities that could have happened without injuries, but then theyre probably balanced by knowing Sititi probably wouldn't have been given a chance without multiple injuries happened.
