REPORTS: Lambie requests release from Springbok contract
Reports from South Africa this weekend suggest flyhalf Pat Lambie has requested a release from his South African joint contract.
According to Netwerk 24 Lambie wants permission to leave his contract in order to play for Racing 92 in Paris. It’s understood that Racing want him in Paris as soon as possible.
In June Lambie insisted he would play rugby again and had “no plans to retire” after the Sharks provided an update on the South Africa fly-half’s health following a battle with concussion symptoms.
Lambie endured a lengthy lay-off after being concussed in June 2016 against Ireland and then sustained another blow to the head in a victory over the Kings in May, after which it was revealed he “was waking up feeling hungover in the mornings” and was suffering with sensitivity to light.
The 26-year-old has played 56 tests for the Springboks, scoring 153 points. As the regular goal kicker for the Sharks, he’s also racked up 757 points in 71 Super Rugby games.
The most notable moment in his career so far would have to be kicking the match winning 55 metre penalty in the Springboks 27-25 win over the All Blacks in 2014.

I'd rate the brothers Hendricks a point or two lower. Jaden has really not delivered on his early promise and Jordan's kicking at posts was quite erratic. Amongst other things.
I was really surprised that DuhDuh was replaced and not Jordan. DuhDuh had a great game and just underlined his class in a backline that was not firing on all cylinders.
Damian Willemse was missed. Hopefully he'll be back to full fitness and have an injury free 2025 (and '26 and '27 and so on until he decides to retire to spend time with his grandchildren).
RG was great. What an athlete.
Very happy that Hanekom made his debut at last. He gave a good account of himself and will hopefully grow into his role on the international stage.
All things considered, this was another frustrating Bok performance. Even though it was a comfortable win, it wasn't a commanding win. This Welsh team should've been put away by a far larger margin.
But I have faith in Dr Rassie. He knows more than I do. Bring on 2027 😁
