Glasgow Warriors are among the leading contenders to sign Scotland prop Rory Sutherland from Worcester Warriors as the Sixways club teeters on the brink of survival.

Worcester have been suspended from playing by the Rugby Football Union and were placed into administration on Monday.

Players believed this would allow them to leave under freedom of contract, with at least ten intending to move on, and some tentatively agreeing deals with other clubs.

But the squad have since been told by the Rugby Players Association that the company which employs them is not in administration, scuppering their immediate exit plans.

Sutherland, a British and Irish Lion, is among Worcester's top talent and attracting interest from the Premiership, Top 14 and United Rugby Championship.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to Edinburgh, where he spent the first seven years of his professional career before leaving for Sixways in 2021.

But RugbyPass understands it is rival club Glasgow who are keen to add him to their squad under new head coach Franco Smith, with Scottish Rugby eager to have Sutherland under their management as the World Cup looms.

Revamped Bath and European Challenge Cup winners Lyon have also made attractive enquiries, leaving Sutherland with a decision to make should he depart Worcester.

Cardiff, too, have made their interest known, although it is believed a move to the Welsh capital would be less appealing to the loose-head prop.
