Rugby Australia considering drastic move to fight drug use - Reports
Rugby Australia is reportedly considering mandatory hair-follicle testing of players in an effort to combat illicit drug use.
The Sydney Morning Herald report that the introduction of the test is being considered.
The report comes days after two videos of Wallabies star Kurtley Beale surfaced where the 30-year-old was shown near people preparing and taking lines of a white substance.
The first video features an older man snorting a line of an unknown white substance off a dinner plate.
The video, which is believed to have been filmed in 2016, features NRL player Corey Norman encouraging the older man snorting from the dinner plate.
Norman boasts “Get it baby, get it” before panning round to Beale who is seen laughing on the couch.
In the second video Beale is seen playing a vacuum cleaner like a didgeridoo before the camera pans to an unidentified man holding a plate with lines of an unidentified white substance on it.
Beale has subsequently been called home from a holiday in New Zealand by Rugby Australia.
The Herald reports the hair-follicle testing method can pick up drug activity from a three month period, providing a broader sample size than traditional methods like urine testing.

McKenzie is better than Barrett , but not better than Richie Mo'unga. Richie regularly outplayed DMac in Super Rugby. , as he did in the 2023 Final in Hamilton. I remember the 2021 Aotearoa Super Rugby Final here in CHCH. Mo'unga took him to the cleaners. McKenzie is a fine footballer , but at best a hybrid 10 . Fergus Burke , ( now playing in England ), who made a big difference when he came back late in the Crusaders season , is a better 10 than DMac. I also think 140 game + Crusader Matt Todd was always a better no 7 than Sam Cane.A big part of 3 title winning teams when South African teams were still in the comp. How many titles did the Chiefs win in that period of time?
