Two All Blacks praised as 'potential superstars' in France whitewash

Lomax was outstanding (world class) in 2022, 2023, and 2024 for the All Blacks but he had a pretty average campaign with the Hurricanes this season. The Hurricane scrum was not nearly as good this season as it was in 2024 when it was dominant. Hopefully he gets back to his best form.


Newell was good in 2023 and 2024 but clearly he has improved this season. His scrummaging, which has always been his strength, has become dominating and his fitness level is off the chart leading to an improved work rate.

You persist in propagating this myth that Dmac is only in his second season at 10 despite being corrected numerous times by Nic. Why???

As you have been told he started playing for the Chiefs at 10 in 2017 and he has played there for them many times since then including four Super Rugby Finals.

When one is selected for the ABs I presume the expectation is that you are able to fill the role more than adequately.

The ABs aren't a development squad for 30 year old players.

I thought the rule was players coming back to NZ after being off-contract ( not sabbaticals) had to play a domestic rugby game in NZ before being eligible. Not a full NPC or even necessarily an NPC match. I seem to recall a couple of ABs turning out for Clubs for this reason. Can’t seem to find the rules anywhere?

Beauden , great all round rugby player, but he is not a ‘‘game manager’’ , tactician in the class of say Crusaders and AllBlack great Andrew Mehrtens. His clutch moments have tended to be off the bench in a utility role, not as a starter , like Mehrts was e.g. Kicking winning penalty v Brumbies , 2000 Super Final. Like DMac he is inferior to Richie Mo’unga , who in big games , outplayed both in play offs/finals while playing for the Crusaders. Thankfully we have guys Reuben Love and Rivez Reihana coming through. The latter did great at the business end of Super with the Crusaders.What has Gregor Paul been watching.

Report card: Ratings all 35 England players from the 2025 July Tests

Bob.

There have been 4 lions tours during fords career and he has failed to be picked on any of them by different management teams .

He cannot tackle, is not very quick and to my mind does not bust a gut physically for his team .

That’s why it’s unfair to compare him to Owen or either of the Smiths who have made lions teams .

He is an average player at international level and not lions quality.

End of . That is quite plain to others who matter too .2

When Razor took over, DMac had only started one test at #10 for the ABs. Despite earning 50 caps at that time. So he’s quite inexperienced there at international level. Maybe he’ll get more reliable over the next 3 seasons???

BB is a great athlete and rugby player, he could have been an all time 7’s great. But he's not a test match game managing 10. Neither is DMac.

I don't know how many different ways I need to explain that it's in the club's best interests to ensure that its top players aren't exhausted before the play offs. It doesn't matter how many matches you win in the regular season if you can't win those three knockout games.

Why Steve Borthwick is the real winner from the Lions' latest victory

I agree with the Ford, F Smith, M. Smith FH pecking order. I offer no personal opinion on Farrell’s return to the England set-up other than to say it could potentially be disruptive to Borthwick’s long-term development of other upcoming players as regardless of whether he’s slotted back in at 10 or 12, his inclusion will impact playing opportunities for others. Do we really believe Farrell will be England’s starting 10/12 at the next WC when he’ll be 36? I think a bench berth is most likely over the next couple of England campaigns where he can still be involved free of captaincy and can impart his experience and leadership qualities onto the next generation.

He's ready to play test rugby as a 15 but needs more experience at 10 to play test rugby at 10. Is that so difficult to understand?
