Samu Kerevi likely sticking with Reds

According to Fox Sports, the Queensland Reds appear likely to retain Wallabies midfielder Samu Kerevi despite rumours of a move to Canberra.

The Daily Telegraph reported last week that off-contract 24-year-old Kerevi was in talks with the Brumbies about a switch to the capital.

After the Brumbies recently secured the services of co-captain Christian Lealiifano for another year and successfully recruited Chiefs winger Toni Pulu, the club were eager to shore up the No. 12 jersey following Kyle Godwin’s northern hemisphere departure.

Fox Sports revealed that one insider said that Kerevi is a “very loyal bloke” and that he is keen to ink a one year deal with the Reds, allowing him to decide his future post-World Cup in 2019.

The Reds aren’t well placed to offer Kerevi a big long-term deal with Quade Cooper and Karmichael Hunt still on the payroll, but if they can snag him for another year it would help Brad Thorn as he prepares for his second campaign in charge.

Kerevi has played 21 Tests for the Wallabies since 2016 and has become Michael Cheika’s first choice in the midfield. He hasn’t featured since injuring his bicep in Australia’s third Test against Ireland in June and is expected to miss the majority of the Rugby Championship after undergoing surgery.

What World Rugby say about Dan Sheehan's controversial Lions try

See the last paragraph of World Rugby clarification 3-2022

World Rugby Passport - Clarification 3-2022 which reads

“In principle, in a try scoring situation, if the action is deemed to be a dive forward for a try, then it should be permitted. If a player is deemed to have left the ground to avoid a tackle; or to jump, or hurdle a potential tackler, then this is dangerous play and should be sanctioned accordingly”.

As I said, 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. World Rugby needs to clarify their clarification! So did Sheehan leave the ground to avoid a tackle? If so, then it should have been a penalty to the “Wobblies”.
