Saracens are in utter turmoil behind the scenes, but that is not reflected by the calibre of the side chosen to face Racing 92 in the Heineken Champions Cup on Sunday.

With the reigning European champions now facing automatic relegation from the Gallagher Premiership due to salary cap failings, they seem to have turned their attentions to the Heineken Champions Cup, a competition that had played second fiddle to their domestic endeavours so far this season in their pursuit to stave off relegation.

The three-time European champions had not initially set their sights on retaining their title, but they have named nine members of November’s World Cup final in their starting XV for the must-win against the Parisian side.

Mark McCall’s side will be aware that a win will likely secure a quarter-final place - and this is a team to help them get there.

While this squad may be a revealing sign as to what may unfold over the coming weeks and months, there has still been no statement as to what is going on off the field. After releasing the squad of Friday, there were calls from their fans for more clarification.

The club held a players/staff meeting Friday morning but nothing official was confirmed in its aftermath and fans want answers as soon as possible.

There are also growing calls across the board for Premiership Rugby to release a statement regarding the crisis as there is much confusion among fans across England about something that will have such significant ramifications.
