Sergio Parisse signs for Toulon

Italian talisman Sergio Parisse has sensationally signed for RC Toulon.

The club on the shores of the Mediterranean announced the signing of the Italian talisman at lunchtime.

After announcing his departure from Stade Français-Paris on Friday, Parisse has committed to a 1 year deal with Rugby Club Toulonnais. The captain of the Azzuri will now wear the colors of Red and Black until 2020.

Last Friday Parisse bid an emotional farewell to Stade, the team he'd been with for the vast bulk of his professional career.

“Thank you, Max. Thank you to the players, friends, brothers. Thank you to the fans and all those who have contributed to making this incredible love story possible!! Thank you Paris!!”

Parisse’s message had followed a brief statement by the club confirming that they are to go their separate ways. “Stade Francais and Sergio Parisse have decided by mutual agreement to put an end to the contract that binds them,” it read.

Parisse helped Stade Francais to the Top 14 title in 2007.

He made his debut for Italy in 2002 against New Zealand and by 2008 he had won his 50th cap – an impressive achievement for the then 24-year-old.

2008 proved to be a big year for Parisse as he was made the Italian captain and was also nominated for the IRB World Player of the Year award. He played every game for Italy in the 2003 and 2007 World Cups.
