Sharks loose forward Jean-Luc du Preez will return to South Africa after sustaining an injury during his short stint at English club Sale Sharks.

The Springboks discard signed a three-month contract with the Premiership club in November 2018.

23-year-old Du Preez, who linked up with his older brother Robert Du Preez, has made a huge impact in the Sale Sharks’ side – making the starting XV since his arrival.

The No.8 did not feature in Sale Sharks’ win over Saracens on Friday due to a groin injury he sustained during the side’s 30-15 bonus-point win against Gloucester in Round 11.

The injury means that Du Preez’ time in England has concluded.

Sale Sharks confirmed the news via their Twitter page last week, however, they have made it very clear that this might not be the last time Jean-Luc Du Preez will don the Sale Sharks jersey.

The tweet read: “It’s been a pleasure JL. Good luck with Super Rugby this year and we might just see you after! The #SharksFamily will be watching!”

Sale Sharks have recently extended Springboks scrumhalf Faf De Klerk’s contract until 2023.

Jean-Luc Du Preez stated: “It was an unbelievable time … They have one of the best team cultures I have had the pleasure of being involved with.

“They are an incredible bunch of lads, and I feel this is just the start for Sale.”
