Springboks arrive in Toulon after 10.5 hour ferry trip

The Springboks have arrived in Toulon in bullish form following a 10.5 hour ferry trip from the Mediterranean island of Corsica.
Speaking from Toulon, head coach Jacques Nienaber said the side is chomping at the bit to kick off their 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign against Scotland in their opening match of the tournament on Sunday 10 September in Marseille, after what he's described as a productive one-week island training camp.
“We had a great ferry trip, which was a unique experience for the team, and we are thrilled to finally be in Toulon for the World Cup,” said Nienaber. “It was an overnight trip, so the players managed to get good rest and we are now officially in World Cup mode.
“We ticked the boxes we wanted to from a training perspective in Corsica and we’ll return to the field raring to go on Tuesday.”
Nienaber added: “It feels surreal to be here. We’ve been working toward this goal for four years and we are now officially one week away from playing our first match.
“There’s a lot of excitement in the group and the team is completely aligned in terms of what we have to do if we want to be successful in France.”
“We said from the outset that we would approach the tournament one match at a time, and the hard work behind the scenes to prepare for the Scotland clash started in Corsica already,” said Nienaber.
“They are ranked fifth in the world, and we know what they are capable of, so it’s vital that we hit the ground running from our first training session.
“Fortunately, the players are used to the heat and humidity after training in these conditions in Corsica, so we are pleased with our preparations and can’t wait to begin the tournament.”

They won’t be rested Ed. Gathie was forced to ditch that practice, by WR, LNR, or whoever, IDK.
It’s very simple and you obviously know this, they do what’s best for the athlete. Galthie is just doing his part in making sure they don’t break, you know, like a team effort.
Just as LNRs teams are.
Bottom lines? The players don’t get a lot of rest as their season is so long, yes, but Galthie can select any player he wants in an International window. You just have to ask yourself does Galthie want to select that player or ensure they are rested? You just need to stop being obtuse, and some French white knight guy, what you say is simply untrue.

The ANZAC myth has been used by sports teams for years. Some to a greater degree e.g. the old Rugby League ANZAC test, some other sports will make passing reference in the advertising or commentary etc.
I don’t think the ANZACs (looking down from heaven) see themselves as sacred cows. I think they would rather see a game of rugby in their honour. What better time to hold a Bledisloe cup match?
ANZAC day is about both remembering the ANZAC’s sacrifice, and their descendants celebrating the freedom we have because of that sacrifice. If a Bledisloe ANZAC test was done in a tasteful way. I see no issue with it.
I don’t think rugby league deserved to host an ANZAC test as rugby league organisations encouraged their players not to go to WWI (Australia didn’t conscript for WWI).
