Teddy Thomas has been fined by Racing 92 for his “inappropriate behaviour” following France’s loss to Scotland in the Six Nations.

The flying winger scored twice for Les Bleus in the 32-26 defeat at Murrayfield, but was one of several players dropped from France’s squad for the next match with Italy due to their behaviour during a night out in Edinburgh.

Racing have now also decided to punish Thomas.

A statement from the Top 14 side read: “The French Rugby Federation has already sanctioned Teddy Thomas by suspending him from the team that will face Italy.

“Racing 92 has opted for a financial penalty against this player retaining his ethics bonus for the month of February.

“Racing 92 wishes to demonstrate to Teddy Thomas that his unsuitable behaviour after the defeat of the France team against Scotland, Sunday, February 11, is not worthy of the professional he is and therefore cannot be tolerated.”

France have lost their opening two Six Nations matches against Ireland and Scotland, and even a win over Italy is unlikely to put them back into title contention.

That’s an over-reaction SK, and a large one at that. And so is your doomsdaying of Australian rugby if the Brumbies happen to lose this weekend, for that matter.

This second week finals scenario was always possible, but in the history of Super Rugby, the no.1 team being beaten in the first week is so incredibly rare that it was barely given a conscious thought until last week - and even then it was only because the reigning Champions scraped into 6th on the back of a game and a half of decent form.

If Moana or the Waratahs finished 6th the scenario would still have been possible, but every bit as unlikely.

It’s not a scam or a farce, it’s just been undone by an extraordinary turn of events as the top six was decided..

Their presence a whole front row and from what I have seen pretty good wouldn’t have necessarily saved the day but reckon it could have halved the scrum penalties and it all adds up to getting closer

Next year, I want to see the men in red have a dominant set piece and some mongrel. I said to Nick yesterday that I would like to see them move to a more aggressive defensive system rather than the passive one that is currently being used.

However the preference in Australia is to use a sliding defence that prioritises staying connected rather than applying intense pressure so I expect more of the same there.

Even though the Reds are out, I’m still wearing my Reds hoodie but well and truly on the Brumbies bandwagon for however long they remain in the competition.

The odds of the Brumbies or Chiefs winning this tournament will balloon out if the Crusaders win on Friday so for once, this Queensland Maroons fan will say go the Blues!

I know we’ve discussed this and you think J Barrett should focus at 12.

But I’d love to see Timoci Tavatavanawai at 12 and J Barrett at 13. It would be like Nonu/Smith but Smith on steroids and HGH :)
