The 'big' Wasps announcement forecast by Andy Goode might already be out of the bag
More fuel has been added to the fire of a potential Shaun Edwards' return to Wasps.
Edwards revealed last year that he had 'agreed' to return to Rugby League side Wigan Warriors - but now the Wales defence coach stated he will "consider all offers" for a new role after the Rugby World Cup.
Edwards was unveiled by Wigan at a press conference last August and was due to take over as head coach of his hometown club next year.
The Wigan legend agreed to succeed Adrian Lam after fulfilling his commitments with new Six Nations champions Wales, but says he has not signed a contract to take charge of the Super League giants.
"On my future, my next step really is to sign a contract, I haven't signed a contract with anybody yet," said Edwards, who has been repeatedly linked with Wasps.
Speaking on a RugbyPass Facebook live session two weeks ago, former Wasps flyhalf Andy Goode revealed that a big announcement was on its way at Wasps and many have drawn a line between those words and an Edwards return.
“There is going to be some changes in and around the club, I believe. Watch this space, there are some big announcements to be made, huge announcements to be made,” said Goode, who is still involved behind the scenes at the Coventry based club.
“Some decent changes over the next few weeks, some big announcements. I am privy to certain things that I cannot say here… but big news coming Wasps fans way, good news as well.
“Brilliant news actually.”
Goode also suggested that Young would remain on as headcoach, regardless of the 'big announcement'.
Edwards would potentially join Dai Young's coaching ticket as a defence coach, a role currently occupied by Ian Costello. Costello originally joined from Nottingham and was to work alongside former Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson, before the Welshman snubbed Wasps in favour of taking up a role with Scotland.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ricoh Arena at the start of the month, Young said that any coaching announcement wouldn't be made for at least four weeks.
"The reality is I don't see any announcements or any sort of way forward in the supporting of coaches for at least four to six weeks," he said. "We are in a process at the moment of actively speaking to coaches."
Edwards latest comments have put considerable distance between him and a return to his former employers Wigan, although he states no contract has been signed - for any club in either code as yet.
"I haven't signed a contract. The only team I'm not going to go to is Wales, because the new coach [Wayne Pivac] is going in a different direction.
"He wants to do something different. So that's where I'm at at the moment. So as it stands, come the end of the World Cup I'm unemployed."
Edwards added: "I agreed with Wigan and thought we would sign a contract,
"But then Wigan said, 'it's okay, we'll sign one later', and I thought that was unusual. And that was nine months ago. I agreed to go to Wigan, but I never signed a contract.
"I'll consider all offers, league, union. All I can say is that I haven't signed anything with anybody."
