Townsend reacts to Eddie Jones abuse
Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has criticised the abuse hurled at England head coach Eddie Jones by Scotland rugby fans.
Jones travelled by train to from Edinburgh to Manchester and has vowed never to do so again.
“I’m a human being. I don’t consider myself any different from anyone else, so for me to travel on public transport I thought was OK. But I’ll make sure I won’t in future. It’s as simple as that" Jones said in the aftermath.
And Townsend has condemned the fans behaviour.
“Look, it was really disappointing to see that incident. Anybody that gets verbally abused like that, it’s terrible to see, especially when it happens to someone involved in our sport and a fellow coach. Hopefully that’ll never happen again”, Townsend said.
“No one deserves that. I thought the way England handled (the defeat), which would have been a big disappointment for their players, to how they spoke after the game, to the coach – showed they were good losers as well as being very good winners over the last couple of years.”
The Scottish Rugby Union had already released a statement over the incident.
"Scottish Rugby is appalled by the verbal abuse suffered by Eddie Jones. The disgusting behaviour of those involved does not represent the values of our sport or its fans. The dignity Eddie and the England team showed on Saturday is in stark contrast to this ugly incident."

Disagree.
The challenge for the All Blacks now that they have 7 of 8 starting forwards locked in and all but one bench forward (only one loose forward and bench loosie to settle on) is to sort out the starting backline as only 9 Roigard, 12 J. Barrett, 11 Clarke and 15 Jordan had good to outstanding seasons in 2024. All the other backs were inconsistent or poor and question marks going into 2025.
