Tuisova one of three Toulon players hit by citings following win over Toulouse
Three Toulon players have been cited following their side’s 25-10 Top 14 win last weekend over league leaders Toulouse.
One citing was inevitable. Replacement loosehead Florian Fresia was red-carded in the 56th minute of the match held in Marseille.
However, two other incidents have been flagged by the citing commissioner for review. Second row Romain Taofifenua has been called to account for his behaviour in the eighth minute of the match while an explanation is also sought from midfielder Josua Tuisova following his 38th minute yellow card.
All three citing were described in a disciplinary statement by the league as “likely to constitute a violation of the General Regulations of the NRL and the FFR".
However, while the sent-off Fresia is suspended before the hearings that will take place on April 17, France’s Taofifenua and Fijian Tuisova are available for selection in Toulon’s next match which is Saturday night’s visit to Grenoble, one of the rare few sides beneath them on the French table.
Last weekend’s victory was only Toulon’s ninth in their 21-match campaign so far. It moved the 10th place strugglers onto 42 points with five matches remaining in a disappointing season where they trail Bordeaux, who occupy the last play-off place, with 56 points.
Known for his rampaging runs through opposition defences, Tuisova is set to sign for big-spending Lyon, apparently on a four-year deal despite having another season on his Toulon contract.
Toulon versus Toulouse wasn’t the only match to catch the attention of the French league’s disciplinarians. Two citing have also emerged from the Castres versus La Rochelle fixture, which was won 25-11 by the reigning champions.
Castres’ Taylor Paris will be asked about his behaviour in the 27th minute of that match while Jeremy Sinzelle will be quizzed about an incident that took place in the 70th minute. Neither player is suspended pending their April 17 hearings.
