Twitter explodes over Welsh teen sensation Louis Rees-Zammit following commanding display against Worcester

Teenage sensation Louis Rees-Zammit has caught the eye of many onlookers across Twitter following a spellbinding display for Gloucester in their 36-3 demolition of Worcester at Kingsholm on Friday.

The 18-year-old Welshman was in inspired form for the Cherries as he bagged a brace of tries and set up another in the Premiership rout, which elevates Gloucester into third place in England's premier domestic competition.

His form resulted in head coach Johan Ackermann lavishing praise on the youngster following the encounter, with the South African stating that Rees-Zammit has "definitely got the skill" to thrive in the international arena.

“International rugby is a big step up. The best of the best play there, and time will tell,” Ackermann said.

“The first thing is for him to play well for Gloucester, and if he does get invited into the Wales group, they will compare him with what they have and then he has to prove himself."

Ackermann isn't the only one who is excited by Rees-Zammit's potential, with fans and pundits alike taking to social media to express their awe of the winger's exploits.

A product of famed rugby nursery Hartpury College, Rees-Zammit's presence in England as a schoolboy prompted former England playmaker and RugbyPass columnist Andy Goode to question whether a switch of international allegiance could be on the cards through residency grounds.

Capped for Wales at U18 level, Rees-Zammit shot down such suggestions with his reply to Goode.

The former Cardiff Blues Academy star has previously spoked of his desire to represent Wales internationally, with GloucestershireLive quoting him as saying:

“I’m Welsh born and bred, my parents are both Welsh and I’m from Llandaff in Cardiff.

“I want to play for my home nations. I want Welsh caps.”

However, that hasn't stopped journalists and spectators from salivating over the prospect of  fulfilling his seemingly vast potential for both club and country.

With the rugby world at his feet while at the top of his game, Rees-Zammit will likely get another chance to bolster his credentials next week when Gloucester travel to Franklin's Gardens to face off against Premiership leaders Northampton.
