Ulster part ways with CEO with immediate effect
Ulster and the IRFU have confirmed that they have parted ways with CEO Jonny Petrie by mutual agreement.
The Irish province confirmed Petrie's departure in a short statement, also detailing the imminent appointment of an interim CEO during the recruitment process.
IRFU CEO Kevin Potts said: “The IRFU and Ulster Rugby thank Jonny for the five years spent with Ulster Rugby and wish him well, both personally and professionally, for the future.”
Petrie joined Ulster in January 2019 but leaves in what has been a turbulent season so far at the club. Former head coach Dan McFarland also departed last month after almost six years at the Kingspan Stadium.
Alongside a problematic season on the pitch, Ulster also reported losses of £900,000 for the 2022/23 season, with Petrie himself citing the late rearranged Champions Cup visit from La Rochelle in December 2022 to the Aviva Stadium as a contributing factor to their losses.
Ulster are currently in seventh place in the United Rugby Championship ahead of a clash with the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday in the second instalment of their two-match series in South Africa. A 22-12 loss to the Sharks at the weekend handed the Duban-based side only their second league win of the season, lifting them from the bottom of the table.
Added to the loss, both fly-half Billy Burns (shoulder) and flanker Sean Reffell (ankle) have had scans today for injuries they picked up in the match.
