It was also reported that the 23-year-old Aucklander turned down lucrative salaries in France starting within the ballpark of $500,00NZD per year.

“I heard about all the contracts from overseas but I didn’t think that was going to prove anything. I just want to make sure I at least complete some goals,” Aso told NZME.

“I want to make the hundy club with the Canes and it’s every kid’s dream to become an All Black. It’s a hard goal but achieving that one day would be awesome.”

Last season Aso ranked second in Super Rugby for tries scored with 14, one behind Hurricanes teammate Ngani Laumape.

He has also re-signed with Auckland, where he plays his provincial rugby and has 38 caps to his name.
