Wales' Louis Rees-Zammit posts a salty 12-word tweet about the WRU

Louis Rees-Zammit has suggested he has been left speechless by the latest WRU reaction to allegations of a toxic culture existing within the organisation. The Welsh Rugby Union has been severely criticised in recent weeks for its governance of the sport in Wales and CEO Steve Phillips resigned on Sunday following accusations of a toxic culture and misogyny at the organisation.

Now steps have been taken to ensure that Deliah, the 1968 Tom Jones song which is about a jealous lover stabbing his unfaithful partner, will no longer be a Welsh rugby anthem as it has been banned from the Principality Stadium playlist for this Saturday’s Wales versus Ireland match.

A Principality Stadium spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday: “Delilah will not feature on the playlist for choirs for rugby internationals at Principality Stadium.

“Guest choirs have also more recently been requested not to feature the song during their pre-match performances and throughout games. The WRU removed the song from its half-time entertainment and music playlist during international matches in 2015.

“The WRU condemns domestic violence of any kind. We have previously sought advice from subject matter experts on the issue of censoring the song and we are respectfully aware that it is problematic and upsetting to some supporters because of its subject matter.”

The story about the song’s ban drew a salty social media response Rees-Zammit, who was included in the 37-man Wales squad named on January 17 for the Six Nations despite an ankle injury suffered on Christmas Eve when playing for Gloucester at Leicester.

The soon-to-be 22-year-old Rees-Zammit wasn’t named in the matchday 23 to take on Ireland this weekend but that didn't stop him from reacting to Wednesday’s WRU decision to ban Deliah. The Wales winger wrote: “All the things they need to do and they do that first…”, a 12-word post that he ended with the emoji face without a mouth that signifies speechlessness. His tweet, published at 3.19pm, clocked up approximately 70,000 views within an hour of posting.
