Wallabies lose star for Springboks Test

Wallabies number eight David Pocock has been withdrawn from Saturday night’s clash against South Africa after failing to overcome a neck injury sustained in the second Bledisloe Cup clash in Auckland.

Pocock has been replaced in the starting side by Pete Samu, who will earn his first Test start when he runs out at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

The Wallabies currently sit fourth on the Rugby Championship standings after back-to-back defeats to New Zealand to open their 2018 campaign.

Australia and South Africa have been fiercely competitive in recent match-ups, after playing out two draws in 2017.

The Wallabies and Springboks last met in Brisbane in 2016 when Australia edged home 23-17.

When Gibson-Park was trapped in coffin-corner it was Farrell who saved the day by clearing out the jackler. He did at least two more key clear outs at rucks and the Aussies never looked like scoring a try when he was on the pitch

Can someone please explain to me why Samu Kerevi at a mere 31 years of age wasn’t near the test team?

The AUNZ was an embarrassing disaster! A well prepared competitive Australia A with the players who were close (BPA, Ross, Tupou, Swain, Canham, LSL/Hooper, Samu, Cale, white, joc, Daugunu, foketi, kerevi, korobeite, Kelkaway would have been a much better preparatory test for the Lions and revelatory for the composition of the Oz bench.

Feels like such a wasted opportunity.

Other than Geoff Parling lo guru hard to say that many of the Oz coaches came away with credit in the bank.

Totally undeserved

How could you possibly justify bringing Farrell on as a 13? A position he has never played and with the game in the balance.

In 20 minutes he made 3 passes made one tackle and missed two otherwise completely anonymous.

Yes adding to that, if you're Joe Schmidt and leaving the Wallabies setup on your own terms as he is, then there's less pressure to win a one off series (at all costs) than if you were coaching for your future, so I do wonder whether he's selecting with a view to leaving the team in a better place for the future, which as an all blacks fan ultimately is what we want to see, a return to the wallabies of old!

This was one bad call in a string of bad calls.

It's hard to feel sorry for the Aussies though.

They let a 23-5 lead slip away.

And don't forget Nic Berry did his best to make sure the Boks lost their Lions series 2021.

I am a Bath fan and all I can say is what an outstanding job Johan has done. He took an unfit squad with broken confidence and has dramatically turned the club around. I think JP Ferreira was his best signing, who took a leaky defence and turned it into the league’s best within 2 seasons. Lee Blackett then added a touch of attacking excitement and they have become a very good team, who are always tough to play against.

Chapeau Johan - you have the entire City behind you and have made the club your own.
