Wallabies midfielder turns down Waratahs to re-sign with Western Force

Centre Kyle Godwin has knocked back the NSW Waratahs to re-sign with the Western Force for another two years.

It was believed the 28-year-old would link with the Waratahs but he instead re-committed to the Perth-based club where he started his Super Rugby career.

Brumbies veteran centre Tevita Kuridrani is also believed to be joining the Force for the 2021 season.

Making his debut as a 19-year-old in 2012, Godwin played five seasons with the Force before two years in Canberra with the Brumbies and a stint in Ireland.

Godwin was one of the Force’s best performers through Super Rugby AU, despite the side not managing to crack a win.

Earning one Wallabies cap in 2016, he said he was happy to remain in Perth, where he grew up.

“This club holds a special place in my heart and to be able to represent WA again means the world to me,” Godwin said in a statement.

“It feels like a homecoming after beginning my career here all those years ago.”

With 60 Western Force caps to his name, Godwin said he was enjoying playing under coach Tim Sampson, who also recently re-signed.

“I’ve really enjoyed the style of play that Tim Sampson has instilled into this group,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to growing as a player under him.”

Schmidt is a good technician but woeful selector. The entire First Nations front row should be in after their scrum dominance during the week. Slipper is a great servant but held together with tape.

Loto should be in at blindside with Bobby V at 8 with Wilson dropped. Wilson also a good servant but doesn’t bust tackles and has poor ball handling. Probably also put Samu on the bench given donaldsons versatility.

Amatosero is a better long term prospect than Williams and should be on the bench.

Gamble has shown he’s better than McReight in both of his games against the Lions. Drop McReight and start Tizano with Gamble off the bench.

A much better balanced and more powerful team than Schmidt has selected.

Even then you’re going to need to call in the fourth person for at least one position at the first injury during a WC. There’s no other more vital time.

And then the cycle will repeat and they’ll have to start again to have them ready by 2031.

Is Ofa Tu’ungafasi likely to return? He’s recovering well from the broken neck? Really hope that’s the case.

Fabian Holland made such a telling and impactful introduction to international rugby, they now have in him, Scott Barrett, Tupou Vaa’i and Patrick Tuipulotu, four genuine locks.

Four of 8 required, this isn’t supposed to be a hard concept to grasp. Darry and Lord are two more, and if players in the prime like Shalfoon and Walker-Leoware aren’t going to be tried there is a few new interesting youngsters I’d love to see tried.

Where Robertson is going to feel a level of concern is at halfback and first-five, because the French series highlighted there is a big gap between the first-choice picks of Cameron Roigard and Beauden Barrett, and the back-up duo Cortez Ratima and Damian McKenzie.

Agreed, the last test performance was the best so far.

O John ! That reminds me of Zulu. Remember him, Nick ? He had a radar for the nane Skelton appearing in any article or comment, then weigh in on how useless Will was. Actually recall it was often just you and I who saw the value in the big man years ago, just what he brought to the team. Jeez, the Leinster boys won’t be happy facing him tomorrow night.

I don't think that it is realistic to give so many players the game time in tests and still have cohesion, build combinations and actually value the test jersey as being pinnacle games for pinnacle players. The depth should be developed via AB XV with more regular home and away series Vs the likes of island teams, Japan and tier 2 test sides.

That would be about the worst start to a game I have seen a top ten team make in a long time. The cleaners were just asleep when Joesph S went into contact. That whole first half was awful to watch.

“but Skelton had declared he was “raring to go” before the first Test, only to be excluded from the matchday squad.” I had assumed he was in fact held back as he was still not fully fit, Nick. That is appalling if he was simply left on the outer. Not starting Bell was a very strange decision.

Joe Schmidt has from in making odd, and in my view damaging, decisions. You would recall his leaving out Devin Toner for the Japan RWC. His lineout dominance had been supreme for years for Leinster and Ireland. Do you think he had lost form enough to be left out. I ask as you were working as an analyst then with Stuart Lancaster at Leinster. I also disagreed with the leaving out of John Cooney, who was one of the top scrumhalves in Europe at that time.

I say no thanks to your attitude destroying the team and all that’s made it strong over the years. He shouldn’t need to show a whole NPC season of good form before being considered again though things like that and dropping of, who was it, Piutau from from the Blues last season because he was taking up somebody elses opportunity is like bitting off your own hand.
