Wallaby bad boy Tolu Latu is heading back to France with news that Montpellier has officially announced the signing of Australian international hooker on a two season deal.

The 30-year-old player, who previously represented Stade Français and Waratahs, will join Montpellier after recovering from a long-term injury that limited his appearances in the Super Rugby Pacific this season gone.

With 21 international caps for Australia, Latu brings significant experience to Montpellier's front row, where he'll be set to compete with Jérémie Maurouard and Brandon Paenga-Amosa for the No.2 jersey.

During his stint with Stade Français, which began in 2019, Latu played 48 matches and made notable contributions with six tries. However, his playing time was frequently interrupted by disciplinary issues. He racked up eight yellow cards and two red cards, his most recent appearance in the French Top 14 dates back to March 26, 2022, against Bordeaux-Bègles.

His off field shenanigans have also made headlines. Latu was caught drink-driving twice - once in France and once in Australia during his six years with the Waratahs.

Montpellier's recruitment of Latu follows their recent signing of Exeter Chiefs tighthead Harry Williams; strengthening their front row for the upcoming seasons. The Hérault club aims to build a competitive squad capable of once again challenging for honors in the Top 14.
