Wasps utility back Le Bourgeois signs new deal
Wasps centre Michael Le Bourgeois has signed a new deal to stay at Ricoh Arena.
The 29-year-old becomes the third player in recent weeks to commit himself to the club after the news that England lock Joe Launchbury and Academy graduate Jacob Umaga have put pen to paper on new deals.
Le Bourgeois, who can play at fly-half, centre or full-back, has been plying his trade in the Black and Gold as inside-centre since his arrival in the summer of 2018, and has made 24 appearances for the Club to date.
Before moving to Coventry, the Jersey-born back was a standout performer in the Championship for both Jersey Reds and Bedford Blues.
He began his career with Jersey as an 18-year-old, going on to make over 100 appearances and racking up nearly 900 points across six seasons, as he helped his local club progress from English rugby’s sixth tier to the Championship, where he scored their first-ever try.
‘Booj’ to his teammates later moved to Bedford in 2013 where he spent five years and made almost 100 appearances and he was named as RPA Championship Player of the Season after an impressive 2017/18 campaign, as well as being selected in The Rugby Paper’s 2017/18 Dream Team.
Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “Booj has made the step up from the Championship and taken his opportunities with both hands.
“He’s given us plenty of go-forward in attack while he’s shown his strong capabilities in defence and we’re looking forward to seeing more of that quality over the coming seasons.”
Le Bourgeois added: “Moving to Wasps was a big step for me in my career to test myself at the top level and it’s a move that’s reaped the rewards.
“I’ve been able to experience Premiership and European Rugby and now I want to continue to challenge myself on this stage.
“We’ve got a great bunch of players and coaches at the Club and we’re all excited about the move to a new training facility, and hopefully we can push on as a group and start competing on all fronts.”

It is a good argument to keep the Rebels for one more year but also isnt this just opening the door as well for keeping them beyond 2025. If they can create some sort of financial stability in the next year and if their performances lift as they have this season then how would RA even cull them after that? It might be the most cost effective decision at this stage and perhaps many people are guilty of keeping relationships going because of the cost to decouple but then again when does that ever work out well?
