Watch: All 34 of van der Flier's record breaking tackles
The flanker made an incredible 34 tackles against Connacht (yes, in a single game) and in doing so broke the Pro14 record for tackles made in a single game.
Although the 24-year-old made a colossal 34 tackles, perhaps even more impressive is how he managed to not miss a single one.
Leinster scrum coach John Fogarty spoke highly of van der Flier, saying “he’s got an incredible appetite for work.”
“He has become very, very accurate over the last few seasons so his entries into contact have improved hugely.”
“That has led to good outcomes and he doesn’t get himself injured too much because of his good work on his entry into contact.”
“He is a really good example to a young player as to how they should apply themselves and he’s a great example for our guys, young and old.”
“To throw out numbers like that is pretty impressive and it’s due to his appetite for work.”

Even with absences we still had the cattle to make the playoffs. As it was, we nearly stumbled our way into the top 8. Which shows just how easy it was to get there. And still we failed. As for Razor, there are many instances of him patching up the Crusaders roster. Numerous. Several players Id never heard of. Also, using AB legend John Afoa was a classic.
But, some of the games we were losing were from schoolboy errors, or downright confusion. Either the players were really dumb (they weren’t) or they were poorly coached. Given the repetitive nature of errors, brain fades, poor decision making, & loose structures, this all lands with the coaching group.
With only six playoff spots now in SR, & Aussie franchises now consolidated to four, 2025 looks like a tight one. We'll have to tough it out under Penney & hope for the best.
