Watch: Five times players failed to just touch the ball down

Brian O’Driscoll once told the Independent:

“You’ve to celebrate the good days because there are brutal days that make the good ones sweet”

This would seem very true however it is also a good rule of thumb to wait until the die has been cast before one begins toasting their successes.

The swan dive is the perfect example of this and has long been a staple of rugby, made infamous by players such as Chris Ashton.

Human nature means that the release of endorphins combined with the oversupply of adrenalin generally leads to quite a grandiose celebration.

While human error on the other hand means that every now and again this overzealous act can go horribly wrong with very serious consequences or humorous depending on your point of view.

The reality is however that as long as players are overjoyed by scoring, we’re likely to see the odd banana skin moment.
