Watch: Jerome Kaino predicts Auckland will win the title after his departure
Fairytale finishes are never guaranteed, even though no player could be more deserving than All Black Jerome Kaino.
The loose forward spent fifteen years in Auckland and with the Blues Super Rugby franchise after debuting with Auckland in 2004, the year after the Blues won their last Super Rugby title.
He achieved success early in his career, winning two titles as part of the Auckland NPC champion sides in 2005 and 2007 in the then-Air New Zealand Cup but since suffered a long drought as an Auckland rugby player.
Earlier this year, he spoke with RugbyPass as part of the Kiwis Abroad series and was willing to bet on Auckland's success following his departure.
"I betcha they are going to win it now that I've left," he lamented.
"I was talking to Conrad and Ma'a, the year after they left they [Hurricanes] won it. I think I was the curse.
With a host of changes in personnel and coaching at the Blues, the potential for a resurgence in 2019 is possible. Whether they can complete the double in a cruel tribute to legend Jerome Kaino remains to be seen.
