Watch: Liam Messam red carded after high shot against Montpellier
Ex-All Black Liam Messam was red carded in Toulon's loss to Montpellier in the Top 14 after this high shot on centre Yvan Reilhac.
The flanker caught the midfielder cutting back in a crunching ball-and-all tackle, rocking Reilhac and stopping him in his tracks. Messam was adjudicated to have made contact with Reilhac's chin, resulting in a red card. The incident occurred in the 81st minute, however, with the result of the match already sealed.
Toulon slumped to their fifth loss of the season and were truly outclassed by the home side in the 29-17 loss.
Benjamin Fall and Timoci Nagusa went over to give the home side a 14-10 lead at the break, while Jan Serfontein and Louis Picamoles added further tries in the second half for last season’s beaten finalists.
All Blacks Julian Savea and Malakai Fekitoa saw action in the dying stages from the bench, with Savea sparking Toulon's last try with a brilliant offload down the left-hand touchline.
The result leaves struggling Toulon in 12th place in the table.

Safas are so triggered by Ireland. 3 consecutive losses, incl RWC. 8 losses out of last 12 Tests. Always excuses, of course, with Bok fans.
