WATCH: Pro14 players give their views on the addition of two South African franchises

The addition of the Toyota Cheetahs and the Southern Kings has already been a huge talking point among fans and the the subject of the two new teams was a keynote topic at the Pro14 launch in Dublin today.

The Guinness PRO14 will adopt a two-conference model which will allows for the new clubs to be added into the Championship without need to add extra rounds in 2017/18.

The tournament will now represent 5 countries and will span two continents.

But, what of the players? What do they do they make of the history making move, and what do they expect of the new competition and their new rivals?

RugbyPass caught up with a number of players to get their take on the matter.

Sigh, Gregor is right of course. You only have to look at the accolades BB regularly collects from experienced rugby writers both here and around the world to see that it’s only in (some parts of) NZ that his skills, experience and incredible value is even a talking point. Injuries aside, BB will become our most capped AB over the next two seasons.

Yea I suppose in 19 I was happy either way with Richie or Beaudie at 10 but Beaudie at 15 just seemed to kick the ball to much ..but I understand ur point and I think it is more than valid ..I still all 3 are very good and Love could be no doubt but what happens with him at Canes will have a major influence on where he plays in black

Well they exposed Finn Smiths weaknesses no doubt even his penalty touch finders ended up being a mile off was rattled..as for young dude Pollock he was loving all the ruff stuff truly enjoying it all

They resisted bringing Richie in. “Rolls Royce pack” etc. It wasn’t till Dmacs grand mother died and he left the tour to Arg and SA that RM got the starting position. That’s when BB was sadly moved, by Hansen, to 15. With Dmac injury in 19 BB was asked to remain at 15 so they could continue the “ duel playmaker” patterns they strongly believed in. I feel that one Hansen move has harmed NZ rugby as we have seen a few promising 10s put back to 15 when coming g thru SR. ZS is a perfect example. Even Love partly.

I was getting pretty annoyed with the Wallabies at times there were far to many “unforced” errors from some of the boys that to my eye looked nothing more than not handling the occasion, most of these Oz boys are way better than that did not put close to there best foot forward so yea they need to stay switched on more full the whole 80 but still just relax a tad and play the game, give it heaps but not at the expense of discipline and manage energy better

Yeah, I think its giving someone else a free shot. Particully a guy like ALB with around 89 tests or similar.

Hopefully some players do put pressure on.

Prediction. BB & RM will be the pivots come World Cup time. A toss up to see who will be back up to these as there a few options amongst the younger brigade but need to develop further. The likes of DM may still have a role to play but not long term.
