WATCH: Wales coach brings the house down with Eddie Jones quip

By Peter Thompson
Wales assistant coach Robin McBryde

Forwards coach Robin McBryde eased the tension on the eve of Wales' Six Nations clash with England with a gag that brought roars of laughter from journalists.

Eddie Jones has made a habit of entertaining reporters in media conferences and the England head coach was the subject of McBryde's quip on Friday.

Wales had waited for Jones to decide whether he wanted the roof open or closed for Saturday's eagerly awaited encounter at the Principality Stadium before the Australian opted to keep it open.

A day after Wales were informed of that decision, McBryde turned receptionist by answering a reporter's mobile phone on the table in front of him at a news conference, pretending it was Jones making the call.

Before putting the phone down the quick-thinking McBryde said: "Eddie, no sorry mate, we're in the middle of a press conference."

When asked what his reaction was to Jones wanting the roof open, McBryde responded: "Well he's just rang me to change his mind!

"The roof open won’t have much of an impact. The forecast is dry. Perhaps they want to let some of the noise out."
