Weekend Round-Up: Belfast Try Bonanza
Catch up on the best of the weekend’s games on Rugby Pass as the Champions Cup pool stage gets very interesting.
Champions Cup: Ulster vs Clermont
Clermont were number one on the Top 14 table and the unbeaten leaders of Champions Cup Pool 5 as they turned up to Kingspan Stadium in Belfast as the favourites to keep it rolling against Ulster. A try in the first minute to Peceli Yato looked like an ominous sign, but the home side struck back almost immediately through Luke Marshall. This set the pattern for the rest of the game, a high-scoring thriller and unquestionably the match of the weekend.
Champions Cup: Munster vs Leicester
Munster have a formidable home record in Champions Cup rugby, and their form over the last couple of months has seen them beat the Maori All Blacks and withstand whatever their club rivals could throw at them. So it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that they would hold a 19-0 lead over Leicester at half time of their Champions Cup clash this weekend. Tyler Bleyendaal’s unerring boot did most of the damage, while Ireland star Simon Zebo added a try. Could the battered Tigers muster a second half comeback?
Champions Cup: Racing 92 vs Glasgow
Last year’s finalists Racing Metro looked to get their Champions Cup campaign kickstarted this weekend as Glasgow Warriors rolled into Paris. The early running belonged to the home side who took a 7-0 lead through a try from – who else? – Juan Imhoff. But Glasgow soon struck back through the boot of Finn Russell, and an Alex Dunbar try put them ahead at half time. Could they hold on for a crucial Pool 1 win?
Champions Cup: Toulon vs Scarlets
Watch: Full Game | Condensed
Mamuka Gorgodze got the home side off the the best possible start at Stade Felix Mayol, the big Georgian back-rower’s try putting Toulon up 7-0 after just 5 minutes. The French glamour club have overcome a troubled start to the season to be one of the form sides in the Top 14 at the moment, but the boot of Rhys Patchell and a 35th minute try from Ken Owens meant Scarlets were still in the game at halftime... but only just.

Dear Ben Smith you are a genius! God please become the next all blacks coach that can take on the mighty BOKS. Your rugby acumen is second to none - imagine your dads sperm bounced as unfortunately as that oval ball did….we would not be blessed with your presence. Just as the all blacks were missing a man you too are missing a chromosome for 80% of your life, so your insights are not only profound but ring true from your own experiences. Just as the TMO interfered with citing an illegal pass I am sure your local authorities interfere with your illegal passes you make on women - How dare they!!! God forbid that rugby be officiated fairly. You are the right man for the job. Next all blacks coach is here ladies and gentlemen Miss Ben Smith (He/She/They/IT)
