Welsh legend Phil Bennett is 'unwell' and being cared for by family
Scarlets have issued a short statement as speculation mounts around the well-being of Wales legend Phil Bennett.
The 73-year-old is said to be 'battling' an illness and is being looked after by his family. His former club took to social media to address speculation online about his health.
A Scarlets' statement reads: “Our President Phil Bennett is unwell and being cared for by his family.
“Phil is battling like the true Scarlet he's always been and our thoughts and prayers are with him. We would ask everyone to respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”
Bennett represented Wales on 29 occasions as well representing the British & Irish Lions. He also represented the Scarlets, then Llanelli RFC, on 410 occasions scoring 2444 points over 15 seasons.
He's widely considered to be one of the greatest to ever play the game.

Don't think Tom Curry should have been selected. Whatever the protocols say, if he's had two concussions this season already, and was knocked out cold two weeks ago, he should have been told to go home and put his feet up for a while. Think there's a welfare issue here, and I don't mean Steve Borthwick's coaching career. England will most probably beat Japan, and the back row is one of the relative areas of strength, so England could easily have selected someone else without massively weakening the pack.
