Will Muir injury is season ending confirm Bath

Bath winger Will Muir won't play this term again after sustaining a season-ending injury in training - the club have confirmed.

Bath staged a spirited fightback over the weekend but ultimately lost their Round 4 Gallagher Premiership showdown with London Irish in Brentford 47-38.

They are yet to win a game in four attempts, continuing on from where they left off after their dire season last time out.

Results aside, an increasing injury tally off the field has hit Johann van Graan's struggling side, with Muir's maybe the pick of the bunch in terms of severity.

Muir saw a specialist following a severe knee injury that he sustained in training at the end of last month and the club have confirmed today that his 'injury will require surgery and is season-ending'.

Affectionately known as Horse, Muir arrived at the Rec with an exciting England Sevens CV in tow having excelled on the World Stage, winning his country’s Men’s Player of the Year award in 2019.

After a period of learning the structure of the team, he earned his Gallagher Premiership debut as a replacement against Harlequins in February, 2020 and has since continued to thrive in the Bath environment.

There's also bad news in the forward pack, with England lock Josh McNally and GJ van Velze both dislocating their shoulders against London Irish. The club are seeking specialist opinions on the matter but the pair likely face months out of the game.

Elsewhere scrumhalf Will Spencer suffered an ankle injury against Sale Sharks and is aiming for a return at the beginning of November, while Tom De Glanville's hamstring injury will continue to be monitored with an aim of reconditioning before his return to play.
