Williams stripped of Racing ambassador role for 'unforgivable' mistake

Ali Williams has been stripped of his ambassadorial role with Racing 92 after being arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine.

Racing's joint-coach Laurent Travers said the former New Zealand international has made an "unforgivable" mistake.

Williams was suspended by the Top 14 club after he and Toulon utility-back James O'Connor were arrested and taken into custody in Paris early on Saturday.

Travers on Wednesday confirmed lock Williams, who came out of retirement to join Racing ahead of the 2016-17 season, is no longer an ambassador for the club and said the 35-year-old can have no complaints.

"Of course [Williams] has seen the president. A choice was made. Then, when you're doing something unforgivable, it’s completely logical to be sentenced," Travers said.

"So there was a sentence and that's it. No need to argue about it. Sometimes people make mistake and he made one. But it’s not because he made a mistake that you can throw him in the media fodder.

"We are human beings, sometimes we do mistakes, some mistakes are forgivable, some aren't, and as I've told you, this one is unforgivable, so there is a sentence."

Toulon suspended former Australia international O'Connor on Tuesday.
