Bio
Beatrice Rigoni currently plays as an inside centre for the Italy women's rugby union team and Sale Sharks Women. She debuted for Italy during the 2014 Women's Six Nations at the age of 18.
Born on 1 August 1995, Beatrice Rigoni started playing rugby when she was six years old. She trained alongside her brothers at Petrarca Rugby in Padua and remained there until the age of 12. She then progressed to the U16s team at Valsugana Rugby Padova before joining the senior side in 2013.
Rigoni first took to the international stage while she was at school. She earned her first cap at the 2014 Six Nations and went on to appear in every match. Her shining moment arrived during Italy’s match against Scotland: Rigoni scored her first two international tries and celebrated a stunning 45-5 victory.
Since then, Rigoni has become one of the Six Nations’ most feared try scorers. In 2016, she was the only Italian player to cross the line against Wales; her brace secured Italy’s 16-12 victory. Next, she scored two tries in the 2018, 2019 and 2021 tournaments. This was followed by her best performance in 2024, with 22 points scored across four appearances.
Rigoni’s achievements have been rewarded with three accolades. First, she was named in the World Rugby Women’s 15 Dream Team of the Year for 2021. One year later, she secured her place in the 2022 Six Nations Team of the Championship. She received this award again at the 2024 Championship.
In addition to rugby, Rigoni chose to continue her education and studied pharmacy at the University of Ferrara. She balanced her degree with her training and was subsequently named in the Italy squad for the 2017 Rugby World Cup.
She made her second World Cup appearance at the delayed 2021 tournament. Here she helped Le Azzurre reach the quarter-finals. One year later, Rigoni made a career-changing move. She signed for Sale Sharks Women ahead of the 2023-24 Premiership season.
