Emily Scarratt

Emily Scarratt currently plays for Loughborough Lightning and the England women's national rugby team. This skillful outside centre has a long honours list and she is best known for securing England's win at the 2014 World Cup. 

Born in Leicester on 8 February 1990, Scarratt enjoyed a range of sports as a child. This included rounders, hockey and basketball. In fact, Scarratt was offered a basketball scholarship in the United States but she decided to turn it down.

Scarratt’s rugby career began at Leicester Forest. Next, she moved to Lichfield Ladies in 2007. She made her England debut one year later, scoring 12 tries across 12 matches. 

Her success continued in 2009, when she was the joint top try scorer in the 2009 Six Nations. Scarratt replicated her achievement during the next three tournaments, becoming the top try scorer in 2010 and the top point scorer in 2011 and 2012.

Fast forward to the 2014 Rugby World Cup. It was here that Scarratt really proved her worth. She was instrumental to England’s second world title, scoring 16 points against Canada in the final—the match ended 21-9. She was the top scorer in the tournament, finishing with a whopping 70 points.

Two years later, Scarratt captained the England Sevens team to a fourth-place finish at the 2o16 Summer Olympics. Next, in 2018, she signed for Loughborough Lightning. In the same year, she won bronze at the Commonwealth Games.

An exceptional and talented player, Scarratt was named as the 2019 Rugby Union World Player of the Year. The following year, she became England's highest ever point scorer. Since then, she has scored more than 700 points for the squad. She was also the Six Nations’ top point scorer in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

With accomplishments worthy of an MBE for services to rugby union, there's no telling what Emily Scarratt could do next.
