Bio
Gabrielle Vernier currently plays as inside centre for the France women's rugby union team and Blagnac Rugby Féminin. She made her first appearance for the national team in 2017.
Born on 12 June 1997, Vernier developed an interest in rugby during her childhood. She first began training at the age of 10 for Rueil Athletic Club. She spent four years at the club before joining the junior team at Racing Club Nanterre.
Next, Vernier moved to Lille, where she pursued her studies and enhanced her rugby skills. In 2016, she made her senior debut for Lille MRCV. She was an immediate success and won the French championship during her first season. Her senior debut with the national team came one year later in 2017.
Always eager to enhance her game, Vernier is a skillful and award-winning player. Her achievements include being named as the Six Nations Player of Round 1 in 2021.
The following year, Vernier was selected for the delayed 2021 Rugby World Cup. After featuring in France’s opening game against South Africa, her golden moment occurred during the semi-finals. Here she scored a try during France’s match against New Zealand—the Black Ferns won by a single point.
Now an established player, Vernier has become a stalwart for the French team. She contested every match at the 2022 and 2024 Six Nations, and played every minute at the 2023 Championship. It was at this latter tournament that she won Player of the Tournament. In the same year, Vernier was added to World Rugby’s Dream Team and she was nominated for the Player of the Year award.
With some impressive achievements to date, we'll be keeping an eye on Gabrielle Vernier and watching how her career progresses.
