Bio
Known as a powerful ball carrier, Jade Konkel-Roberts currently plays as a number 8 for the Scotland women's rugby union team and Harlequins Women. She debuted for Scotland at the 2013 Six Nations Championship, where she contested every match.
Born on 9 December 1993 in Inverness, Scotland, Jade Konkel-Roberts spent her childhood on the Black Isle. Her family are all rugby enthusiasts and she played at Inverness Craig Dunain Rugby Football Club alongside her mum, dad and siblings.
As a lover of sports, Konkel-Roberts also competed in athletics and basketball. She won two gold medals in athletics when she represented Scotland with the army cadets. She also spent two seasons with the Highland Bears basketball team.
A few years later, Konkel-Roberts took up a place at Glasgow Caledonian University. While here, she represented Hillhead Jordanhill Rugby Football Club and she made her first appearance for the national team. Her first international try occurred two years later at the 2015 Six Nations.
Next, in 2016, Konkel-Roberts signed a full-time contract with the Scottish Rugby Union. This made her Scotland’s first ever full-time professional rugby player and cemented her place in the history books.
As a regular at the Six Nations, Konkel-Roberts made her first Rugby World Cup appearance at the delayed 2021 tournament—Scotland failed to qualify in 2017. She started in all three of the team’s matches, including two tense losses against Wales (15-18) and Australia (12-14). Unfortunately, Scotland failed to win a single match and crashed out during the pool-stage.
Away from the international stage, Jade Konkel-Roberts has played for two clubs: Lille MRCV and Harlequins Women. She joined Lille in 2017 and transferred to Harlequins in 2018. Five years later, she was named as team captain.
As an exceptional number 8, Jade Konkel-Roberts is beloved by Scottish rugby fans. Here at RugbyPass, we've enjoyed watching her career and we can't wait to see what she does next.
