Born in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France on 12 January 1993, Maxime Lucu began playing rugby at a young age. His impressive kicking ability saw him commence his professional rugby career in 2014, when he started to play for Biarritz Olympique as a scrum half.
In 2019, Lucu moved to Top 14 club Bordeaux Bègles and in 2021 he was called up to the French test squad ahead of the Six Nations. During the 2024 Six Nations he scored his first try for France in a match against Wales.
