Owen Franks is one of the finest tighthead props to ever play the game. Although he currently represents the Hurricanes in Super Rugby, he's undoubtedly best known for his 108 caps for New Zealand. During his time with the All Blacks, he won the Rugby World Cup twice.
Born 23 December 1987, Owen Franks showed an obvious talent for rugby at a young age. As a result, he represented New Zealand at U21 and Secondary School level.
In 2007, Owen Franks then made his debut for Canterbury. After a string of impressive performances for the side, he began to represent the Crusaders in Super Rugby in 2009. Between 2009 and 2019, he made 150 appearances for the side. During this period, he helped them capture the Super Rugby title three times and played in a fixture against the touring British and Irish Lions in 2017.
At the end of the 2019 Super Rugby season, Owen Franks left New Zealand and signed for the Northampton Saints. During his stint with the club, he played alongside his brother, Ben. However, after only two seasons in England, he left Northampton and signed for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby ahead of the 2022 season.
Although he's enjoyed a highly distinguished club career, Owen Franks is best known for his performances in an All Blacks shirt. During his international career, he was capped 108 times by the side and won back-to-back Rugby World Cups in 2011 and 2015.
Although his international career came to a close in 2019 when he was left out of New Zealand's Rugby World Cup squad, Owen Franks continues to perform at a high level. We can't wait to see what else he can achieve for the Hurricanes.
