Rory Sutherland Bio

Born in Hawick, Scotland in August 1992, Rory Sutherland's rugby career began with spells at amateur level with clubs including Biggar, Gala and his hometown of Hawick. At this time, he also represented the Borders and Scotland at U17 and U18 level. However, he played in the back row.

Rory Sutherland switched to loosehead prop during his first season of senior rugby with Hawick. The switch in position proved to be successful and he was ultimately signed by Edinburgh in 2014. He then stayed with the club until 2021, making 91 appearances in this time and firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite.

Since then, Rory Sutherland has enjoyed stints with a number of the world’s top sides, including Worcester Warriors, Ulster and Oyonnax. In 2024, he signed for Glasgow Warriors, where he has remained ever since.

Rory Sutherland achieved his first call up for the Scotland national side in January 2016. He then made his debut against Ireland in the fifth round of the Six Nations Championship in Dublin.

Since, Rory Sutherland has established himself as one of the best looseheads on the international scene. As a reward for his performances for Scotland, he was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s tour of South Africa in 2021. He then made appearances in two test matches.

After a string of impressive performances for Scotland in recent years, he was also named in the 2025 British and Irish Lions squad and will tour Australia this summer.

Rory Sutherland is still very much at the peak of his powers. We can’t wait to see what else he can achieve for Glasgow Warriors, Scotland and the British and Irish Lions.
