Bio

An exceptional fly-half, Ruahei Demant is widely known as one of the best women's rugby players in the world. She is currently co-captain of the Black Ferns and she led the team to their sixth world title at the 2021 Rugby World Cup. One year later, in 2022, she was recognised as World Rugby Player of the Year.

Born on 21 April 1995, Demant signed her first contract with the Auckland Storm in 2013. However, sadly, she endured relentless knee problems and had to undergo three knee reconstructions between 2013 and 2015. Fortunately, Demant made a full recovery and she went on to become one of the team’s greatest assets. Three years later, she debuted for the Black Ferns.

Versatile, powerful and skillful, Demant excels in a range of positions. She has worn the number 10, 12 and 13 jerseys, however, she predominantly plays as fly-half. Demant delivered notable performances in this position at the 2021 Rugby World Cup, where she scored 31 points for the Black Ferns. She was also named Player of the Match in their victorious final.

In addition to this, Demant's career highlights include being selected for the Barbarians in 2019. Two years later, she was signed to Blues Women. She made history by representing the team during the very first women's Super Rugby match in 2021.

Next, in 2023, Demant became captain of the Blues. She currently co-captains the squad alongside Black Ferns’ teammate, Maiakawanakaulani Roos.

With a global audience waiting to see what she does next, we're excited to find out just how far Ruahei Demant can go.
