Counties Manukau Rugby Team

The Counties Manukau rugby team, known as the Counties Manukau Steelers, plays in the Bunnings NPC tournament in New Zealand. The team is also affiliated with the Chiefs Super Rugby Pacific franchise.

Read on to discover more about the Counties Manukau rugby team. On this page, you'll discover a detailed history of the side. You'll also be able to see their latest Bunnings NPC results and fixtures.

The Counties Manukau rugby union was founded in 1955. When the National Provincial Championship (now known as the Bunnings NPC) was formed in 1976, the side we now know as Counties Manukau joined.

Since the team joined the National Provincial Championship, they've won the title once, in 1979. In addition to this, they've also won the second division of the competition twice (1993 and 2012).

Today, the Counties Manukau rugby team plays in the championship division of the Bunnings NPC. They play their home games at the Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe, Auckland. The stadium has a capacity of 12,000 spectators.

Ever since the union was formed in 1955, Counties Manukau has produced some of New Zealand's finest ever rugby players. Since then, All Blacks legends such as Pat Walsh, Kevin Skinner, Tony Marsh and Jonah Lomu have represented Counties Manukau.

In addition to this, the current Counties Manukau squad is packed full of Super Rugby Pacific stars, including Nepo Laulala who represents the Blues, and Orbyn Leger and Jonathan Taumateine who play for the Hurricanes.
