Leicester Tigers are a rugby union juggernaut. The Leicester Rugby team has been in existence since 1880, and since then the side has won almost every major rugby union competition available to them.Since 1987-88, Leicester Rugby Club has also won a record 10 English Premiership titles and eight Anglo-Welsh Cups. Plus, from 2005 to 2013, the team even appeared in nine successive Premiership finals. The team has been just as successful in Europe, too. It's thought that the side's nickname comes from their playing kit. Although at first the ground could only hold 3,000 spectators, it has grown in capacity over the years. As of 2020, the ground holds more than 25,000 spectators.

During the side's golden era in the early 2000s, three Leicester Tigers players were members of the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final winning England side, including captain Martin Johnson. In the history of the Leicester Tigers, 153 Leicester Rugby players from 15 different nations have been selected to represent their national side. Plus, 11 Leicester Tigers players have toured with the British and Irish Lions on more than one occasion, and 31 more have toured at least once.Although the side has experienced a major trophy draught since 2013 (they've only won one Anglo-Welsh Cup since), the side has still been moderately successful in both domestic and European competitions. As a result, several top players still feature regularly for the Leicester Tigers, including England internationals Ben Youngs, George Ford and Tom Youngs.
