Leinster missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the United Rugby Championship after suffering a 44-12 defeat to Emirates Lions at Emirates Airline Park.
The Lions, who are officially known as the Emirates Lions for sponsorship purposes, are a rugby union side who are based in Johannesburg and played in Super Rugby until the 2020 season. Also known as the Cats between the 1998 and 2005 seasons, the team had a chequered history with the competition. Although they finished bottom of the table six times, they also reached the semi-finals five times and the final three times. Sadly though, they lost on all three occasions.

Although the Lions Rugby team were not successful in their early years in the competition, several international stars such as Francois Pienaar and André Vos both played for and captained the side.
