Northland Rugby Team

The Northland rugby team, which is also known as the Northland Taniwha, is a professional rugby team that competes in New Zealand's Bunnings NPC competition. The team is also affiliated with the Blues Super Rugby Pacific franchise.

Read on to discover even more about the Northland rugby team. On this page, you'll find a detailed history of the side and a rundown of their current squad. You'll also discover the team's latest results and upcoming fixtures.

The history of the Northland rugby team can be traced back to 1920, when the Northland rugby union was formed. However, the modern version of the Northland rugby team that we know today was created in 1976 when the National Provincial Championship (now known as the Bunnings NPC) was established.

The Northland rugby team has competed in the Bunnings NPC ever since the competition began. Although the team has never won the competition outright, they have won several pieces of silverware over the years. For example, in 1977 (when the team was known as North Auckland), they won the National Provincial Championship Second Division North Island title. Similarly, they won the National Provincial Championship Second Division title in 1997.

Today, the Northland rugby team plays in the championship division of the Bunnings NPC. They play their home games at Semenoff Stadium, which holds 18,500 spectators.

To date, the Northland rugby union has produced 32 All Blacks. This list includes a number of legendary figures, including Sid Going, Hamish Macdonald and Ian Jones.

Despite playing in the championship division of the Bunnings NPC, several stars of New Zealand rugby continue to represent Northland. This includes Jack Goodhue and Rene Ranger, who have both been capped internationally by the All Blacks.

In addition to this, several members of the Northland rugby team are also contracted to play in Super Rugby Pacific. They have players who represent the Highlanders, Crusaders, Blues, Chiefs and Drua.
