Oyonnax Rugby

Union Sportive Oyonnax Rugby (known simply as Oyonnax Rugby by rugby fans across France) are one of the country's elite rugby union teams. Although they're currently competing in the second division of the French rugby pyramid, they also regularly compete in the Top 14.

Read on to discover even more about the Oyonnax Rugby team. On this page, you can read all of the latest news about the team and you can also see the team's upcoming fixtures.

Until 1967, the Oyonnax Rugby team played in France's regional divisions. However, in the 1967 season, the side joined the First Division, which contained 64 clubs at the time. Ever since, the club has yo-yoed between France's top three divisions. But, since 2002-03, the side has played in either the Pro D2 (the second tier) or the Top 14 (the top tier).

Although the team have spent longer in the Pro D2 than the Top 14 in the professional era of rugby, the Oyonnax Rugby team have experienced some success in the top flight. After surviving by the skins of their teeth in the 2013-14 season, the side finished fifth in the Top 14 the following year, reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

During their time in the Top 14, the Oyonnax Rugby team have also represented France in European competitions. The club have mainly participated in the European Rugby Challenge Cup, but after their Top 14 triumph in the 2014-15 season, the team did qualify for the European Rugby Champions Cup the following year.

Although the Oyonnax Rugby team play in the Pro D2, a number of international players still play for the team. For example, ex-France prop Vincent Debaty and Uruguay lock Manuel Leindekar both play for Oyonnax.
