Provence Rugby

Provence Rugby is a French rugby union team that plays in France’s second division of professional rugby union, the Pro D2

The club was founded in 1970 and was originally known as Aix Rugby Club. Between 2001 and 2015, the club was known as Pays d’Aix Rugby Club (PARC) before becoming Provence Rugby.

At the end of the 2004-05 season, the club was promoted to the Pro D2. However they were relegated back to the Fédérale 1 at the end of the season. In 2009, they returned once again to the Pro D2.

Despite coming next to last in the 2009-10 season (a relegation spot) they escaped relegation when Top 14 club, Montauban, filed for bankruptcy and were demoted directly to the Fédérale 1. Unfortunately, Provence Rugby were relegated once again after the 2012-13 season and didn’t return to the Pro D2 until the 2015-16 season.

The side finished last in the 2015-16 Pro D2 season, however they were initially spared relegation when four clubs were relegated to Fédérale 1 due to financial mismanagement. Their luck was short lived when three of the clubs won appeals and remained in the Pro D2, leaving Provence relegated.

In the 2023-24 Pro D2 season, Provence Rugby finished the regular season in first place. This was the first time in the club’s history that the side made it to the finals of the Pro D2.

Provence Rugby have offered some excellent performances throughout the club’s history and we hope to see them celebrate more triumphs in the near future.
