Union Sportive Olympique Nivernaise Nevers Rugby
Union Sportive Olympique Nivernaise Nevers Rugby, referred to more simply as USON Nevers, is a French rugby union team that competes in the Pro D2, France’s second division.
The club was established in August 1903 and was originally founded as Peleton d’avant-garde. Shortly after, the club became Union Sportive Nivernaise (USN). Then, in 1956, they merged with Olympique to become Union Sportive Olympique Nivernaise (USON). In 2016, the club’s name was changed to USON Nevers Rugby.
After several years of failing to secure a place in the second division, the team were finally promoted to the Pro D2 after finishing third in the 2016-17 season of the Fédérale 1. The side defeated SO Chambéry in the second round of the promotion play-offs.
USON Nevers Rugby have been competing in Pro D2 ever since and have remained solid, finishing within a top 10 position each season.
With a steady few years in the Pro D2, will we ever see USON Nevers Rugby in the Top 14? We hope so!
